The future of the former Rudy’s Red Lion Diner was decided by the Bay City Commission Monday night. The Commission approved a license for The River LLC to operate a medical marijuana provisioning center out of the building, 201 Center Ave.

The application for the provisioning center at the former diner was initially denied by the commission during the Oct. 7 regular meeting. The motion to approve the license failed 4-3, since it needed at least 5 votes of the 9-member commission to pass.

The application was brought before the commission on Monday, Oct. 21 for consideration again.

A motion was made by Commissioner Andrew Niedzinski to approve the application and license and the motion passed 5-3.

Commissioners Niedzinski, Brentt Brunner, Kerice Basmadjian, Ed Clements and Jesse Dockett voted in favor of the motion while Cordal Morris, Rachelle Hilliker, and John Davidson voted against it.

Davidson expressed his concern with the growing number of marijuana facilities in Bay City.

“I just think it’s the wrong way to go, to put something on every block in downtown Bay City dealing with medical marijuana or marijuana facilities,” he said.

The Commission then considered a medical marijuana provisioning center application for Thanos LLC to operate a provisioning center at 228 Washington Ave..
