A new medical marijuana facility may be setting up shop in Flint.

City Council approved the first reading of SecureCann LLC’s zoning request 6-0 to allow for 2502 South Dort Highway to be transformed into a facility that grows and manufactures medical marijuana. The vote was taken at council’s Sept. 23 general meeting.

SecureCann is licensed by the state and the city of Detroit to manufacture and distribute medical marijuana. Owner Welson Sarkis said the company is still working on being licensed in the city of Flint. The development is still in its early stages. The building is abandoned and currently owned by Alpine Development Group LLC based in West Bloomfield, according to city records.
