In 2018, Michigan became one of eleven states to legalize weed for recreational use, but the tradition of marijuana in Ann Arbor has been going on for a lot longer than that. Hash Bash, which is returning this spring, is the ultimate stop for any pothead.
Since the event is held in April, people often assume that it’s going to be on the 20th (insert 4/20 joke here), but it’s actually always on the first Saturday of the month.
The festivities will start at high noon. Thousands of people gather at the Diag — the center of the University of Michigan’s campus — to listen to speeches and performances related to the legalization of cannabis.
There will also be vendors selling every kind of weed accessory that you can possibly imagine. There are usually people walking around handing out free edibles and weed, but please be careful about who you trust.
Last year, 10,000 people came to celebrate and that was 6 months before anyone could actually buy weed legally!
These days, a handful of dispensaries in Ann Arbor are the only spots that sell legal recreational weed in the state and the lines were out the door and down the block on their opening days.
When you walk through the normally sleepy campus, the first thing you may notice will be the smell and the smoke.
