During its meeting May 5, the Marquette City Planning Commission unanimously approved a special use permit application for a marijuana retail facility in South Marquette.

The application comes from Fresh Coast Provisioning of Charlevoix. It’s approved to use 100 Genesee Street, at the current Farmer Q’s location.

The plan was approved despite concerns from members about limited parking available at the site.

This is the second approved special use permit for a adult-use marijuana retailer in Marquette. The Fire Station’s plans were approved last month. Another South Marquette property, the former Union Grill, was rezoned last week so it could potentially become a marijuana business.

Also approved recently was Lume in Negaunee, a Medical Marijuana provisioning center. Lume joins Northern Specialty Health as the third Medical Marijuana center. NSH is based in Houghton.

“It’s exciting to see the forward progress in Marquette,” said Penny Milkey, co-owner of Norther Specialty Health.  ”Houghton is moving along and Northern Specialty Health is hoping to serve the adult-use market later this year”
