The sale of recreational marijuana has been approved in Portage after the city council passed an ordinance regulating its sale on Tuesday, May 26.
During the virtual meeting, the council voted 6-1 to amend the ordinance allowing medical marijuana provisioning centers to expand the regulations to cover adult-use marijuana businesses as well.
The new rules allow growers, processing facilities, safety compliance facilities, secure transporters, retailers and microbusinesses in Portage.
The new rules will take effect 15 days after the changes are published as a public notice, which is expected on June 2. The application will be available at www.portagemi.gov/641.
