Another marijuana proposal may come before Port Huron voters later this year under a new petition to amend the measure brought forward last year by Progress for Michigan 2020.

A representative for the outside group notified the city clerk’s office of their intent to initiate a second petition for a ballot proposal via email on Friday. According to the petition language, this ballot proposal aims to “expedite the medical marijuana licensing” process and “reduce lawsuits against the city.”

If successful, it would go before voters Aug. 3.

The ordinance OK’d by city voters last November — replacing a permit ordinance first adopted by the city — put in place a system to rank and award applicants local licenses for medical and recreational marijuana businesses.
