Runner’s High 5K, the non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for cannabis research initiatives while spreading awareness about the positive benefits of cannabis for athletes and non-athletes, is announcing two exciting upcoming events: an April 18 Canna Film Festival at the Ford-Wyoming Drive-In Theater and an August 15 5K run on Belle Isle. Both events are in partnership with Gage Cannabis Co.

In celebration of 4/20, the April 18 Canna Films Festival begins at 8:30 p.m. ET and features the 1995 comedy, “Friday,” starring rapper and actor, Ice Cube.  The historic Ford Wyoming Drive-In Theater is located at 10400 Ford Road in Dearborn and lays claim to being the “largest drive-in in the world.” Cost is $10 per person.

Tickets and more information are available at www.runhigh5k.com and on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/kairos-canna-film-festival-tickets-148919236445.

“I look forward to shifting the narrative around cannabis in athletics via research and development,” said Diop Shumake, founder of Runner’s High 5K and Kairos Cannabis Research Foundation. “These two special events will help us fund our research in this area.”

The idea for Runners High 5K arose after Shumake realized the benefits of fitness and cannabis on the mental and physical health of the human body. In 2021, Runners High 5K will host a series of fundraising events in partnership with their sister organization, the Kairos Cannabis Research Foundation. Kairos partners with colleges and universities to develop their cannabis institutional research programs by providing them with funding through philanthropic initiatives.

Registration is now open for the Aug. 15 5K event on Belle Isle at https://runsignup.com/Race/MI/Detroit/runnershigh5k21.  Registration is $45 per runner.

Runners High 5K is the second social equity recipient of Gage Cannabis Co., a leading high-quality cannabis brand and operator in Michigan,

Gage’s social equity grant program consists of supplying grants, up to $50,000 each, as well as public relations and marketing support. Additionally, the company will support record expungement clinics and informational sessions and will collaborate with key community organizations to provide access to cannabis educational workshops, work development programs, and employment fairs.

“We are thrilled to continue the success of our social equity initiative with Runners High 5K,” said Heather Carter, Social Equity Representative at Gage Cannabis Co. “Their organization has potential to be a staple in the community and in the industry. We have seen the success of our efforts thus far and we look forward to positively impacting our communities as well as encouraging other cannabis companies to take their social equity initiatives seriously.”
