A new $6 million marijuana growing and processing facility broke ground Friday in Inkster. When it opens as soon as this fall, it will become one of just a few Black-owned cannabis businesses in Michigan.

The 25,500-square-foot facility at 2615 Bayhan, being built by a group called Michigan Agricultural Services, is four years in the making.

“It’s been difficult trying to break in and get support,” said Mark Stockdale, principal founder and CEO for MAS. “We’ve had financial humps that we’ve had to get over. We’re coming from way behind. We don’t have access to capital like a lot of other ethnicities.”
