Positioning itself as a healthier alternative to a glass of wine, a new cannabis-infused sparkling water brand called Happi is now available in several dispensaries throughout Michigan.

The drink is a collaboration between founder Joe Reynolds and President Lisa Hurwitz, who has worked in both the consumer packaged goods industry and in marketing at a multistate cannabis company.

“What I found being in our dispensaries was there was two really underserved groups,” Hurwitz said. One was consumers looking for a microdose of marijuana, and the other was female consumers.

“There just wasn’t a lot of accessible cannabis products,” she said.

Reynolds was already doing research and development on a microdose cannabis beverage, and the two connected. After more than 200 iterations of the product, the result is a low-calorie drink (at most, one beverage has 25 calories) in flavors including lemon elderflower, raspberry honeysuckle and pomegranate hibiscus produced by Redbud Roots in Michigan.

Hurwitz said with 2.5 milligrams of THC per can, “canna-curious consumers can really get a sense of what their tolerance is.” Happi uses a fused nano THC technology, a process that it said ensures each can of Happi contains a precise microdose.
