Kalamazoo Valley Community College To Offer Cannabis Training Program

Cannabis skills are in demand. The cannabis industry is creating thousands of exciting career opportunities in Michigan and yet, nationally, a significant shortage of qualified professionals exists.

Through a unique partnership program with Green Flower, a leader in cannabis education, Kalamazoo Valley Community College is offering training for the job skills needed to succeed in this expanding career field.

What training is being offered?

Three certificate programs will be launched in February 2022:

  • ADVANCED CULTIVATION TECHNICIAN ▼This program provides thorough training for the skills and responsibilities of the cultivation technician role. There are three main units to this program:
    • Unit 1:
      • Cannabis compliance training.
    • Unit 2:
      • Skills based training in cannabis cultivation through exploration of botany and genetics of the cannabis plant
      • Seeds, germination, transplanting, and cloning are examined
      • Growing media and the various light sources available
      • Watering essentials
      • Vegetative and flowering cycles of the plant
      • Appropriate steps to harvest, trim, process, cure and store cannabis.
    • Unit 3:
      • Health and safety training
      • Receiving and transport
      • Best security procedures
      • Inventory tracking
      • Importance of documentation and recordkeeping
      • Product safety
    Once the third unit has been completed and the exam successfully passed, the participant will be awarded an official Green Flower Advanced Cultivation Technician Program Certificate and an Advanced Cultivation Technician Certificate of Completion from Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
  • ADVANCED PROVISIONING CENTER ASSOCIATE ▼This program will provide advanced job skills and knowledge to excel as a provisioning center agent. There are three main units to this program:
    • Unit 1:
      • Cannabis compliance training.
    • Unit 2:
      • Specific skills based training in cannabis retail by exploring the history and botany of the cannabis plant
      • Cannabinoids, terpenes and the Endocannabinoid System are examined
      • Various delivery methods and cannabis products used in today’s market
      • Proper dosing and titration protocols for patients
      • Onboarding new patients, taking into account the interactions, contradictions, and potential side effects.
    • Unit 3:
      • Health and safety training
      • Best security procedures
      • Inventory tracking
      • Importance of documentation and recordkeeping
      • Product safety.
    Once the third unit has been completed and the exam successfully passed, the participant will be awarded an official Green Flower Advanced Provisioning Center Associate Program Certificate and an Advanced Provisioning Center Associate Certificate of Completion from Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
  • ADVANCED MANUFACTURING AGENT ▼This program provides thorough training for the skills and responsibilities of the manufacturing agent role. There are three main units to this program:
    • Unit 1:
      • Cannabis compliance training.
    • Unit 2:
      • Business of cannabis extraction and examination of the essential cannabis extraction principles
      • Various extraction options, like alcohol dominant extraction, sub and supercritical fluids, and solventless solutions will be explored
      • Importance of data driven analytics
      • Environmental impact
      • Future of extraction
      • Cannabis processing and manufacturing
      • Foundation of cannabis infused products
      • Considerations for product development.
    • Unit 3:
      • Health and safety training
      • Receiving and transport
      • Best security procedures
      • Inventory tracking
      • Importance of documentation and recordkeeping
      • Production safety
    Once the third unit has been completed and the exam successfully passed, the participant will be awarded an official Green Flower Advanced Manufacturing Agent Program Certificate and an Advanced Manufacturing Agent Certificate of Completion from Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

How much does it cost?

Each eight-week certificate program costs $900. For employers sending more than five participants or for individuals wishing to self-pay and take more than one program, a $100 discount can be offered.

Who can apply for the training and when does it start?

This training is open to anyone. There are no prerequisites and participants can start anytime. Program completion will take approximately eight weeks from the time the first module is initiated.

What certificates will be provided after program completion?

  • Kalamazoo Valley Certificate of Completion
  • National Green Flower Certification

Is Kalamazoo Valley growing cannabis?

No. There are no cannabis substances allowed on any campus.
