Cannabis gummies and chews will be available to patients registered in the Minnesota Medical Cannabis program starting Aug. 1.
The Minnesota Department of Health said patients interested in the products can now make appointments with medical cannabis dispensary pharmacists to get approved before the products become available. Gummies and edibles from the program are separate from the hemp-derived edible cannabis products that became legal in Minnesota at the beginning of July,
Edibles may be useful for patients who do not want to smoke medical cannabis or take it as a tablet, Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm said in a news release.
Edibles will be available in the state medical cannabis program after the state health department received public input asking for the change last year. Consumer market edibles became legal under a state law passed this year and apply to a narrower category of products that contain THC, the component of cannabis that gets users “high.”
