Belle-Tire-backed Lume Cannabis Co. permanently closed four dispensaries July 11. But Lume still operates 32 other dispos employing some 1,000 employees statewide.
Lume, in a statement released through its East Lansing-based public relations firm, Byrum & Fisk, said the closures will allow the company to be ” better aligned for future growth.”
The closed stores include: Bay City, Christmas, Cheboygan and Southfield. Employees who work at the discontinued Lume stores will be provided with severance pay and they will have the opportunity to apply for positions at other Lume stores in Michigan, Lume said in a statement.
To be better aligned for future growth, Lume Cannabis Co. is making changes to several of its retail locations. These changes will allow the company to strengthen its position as Michigan’s leading cannabis retailer, according to the statement.
Lume currently has more than 1,000 employees in Michigan and, with this realignment for growth, it will operate 32 retail locations across the state, the company said.
“This realignment is a key part of our strategy to maintain and strengthen our position as Michigan’s leading cannabis retailer,” said Doug Hellyar, president and COO of Lume. “We remain absolutely committed to growing and deepening our retail footprint in communities across Michigan and continuing our efforts to offer high-quality cannabis products for patients and adult-use customers.”
