Royal Oak city commissioners unanimously approved a proposal last week to allow marijuana sales and use in a tented area at this year’s Arts, Beats and Eats festival, but organizers still have to secure state approvals.

Festival producer Jon Witz said Tuesday he will have to get approval from the state Liquor Control Commission, while marijuana retailer and festival sponsor House of Dank will have to obtain a temporary cannabis event license from the state’s Cannabis Regulatory Agency.

“It’s a three-month process for the (marijuana) license,” Witz said.

To get approval from the LCC, Witz said he will assure them there will be no overlap between alcohol and cannabis use or sales areas.
