Amid worries Ypsilanti is becoming “weed city” with at least a dozen options for marijuana dispensaries, city leaders were faced with a choice.
They could continue to rely on buffers between cannabis retailers and businesses to control their proliferation, leaving open viable locations for new dispensaries within the city’s four square miles. Or they could slap a hard cap on the number of businesses, a restriction that was once part of city rules but was removed in part to avoid litigation over the process of doling out limited permits.
