The Bad Axe City Manager Rebecca Bachman was able to present the Bad Axe City Council with the first draft of the recreational marijuana ordinance at the Jan. 16 city council meeting.
The ordinance was not on the agenda, as it was not ready in time, but was provided to everyone and was discussed during the final board comment.
“I did not get it in time to put it on this agenda as it would not have given you enough time to look at it,” Bachman said. “It will be on the very next meeting and now you have plenty of time to look through it.”
The ordinance was written up by the city attorneys and will be discussed at the next meeting on Feb. 5.
As far as the next steps for the ordinance, Bachman said that the next meeting will be the main discussion about the contents of the ordinance and the place for members of the council to suggest and make changes. She added that the ordinance is currently just on the regulations of operation, and not the zoning for locations.
If the council does not feel like it needs to make changes, then there is a possibility that it will be voted on at the Feb. 5 meeting. If it is approved by the council it, would then move on to the Bad Axe Planning Commission, which will create the zoning rules for locations.
