A demolition crew on Monday began the process of tearing down a longstanding trouble spot and eyesore in Roseville to clear the property for a cannabis dispensary.
The walls of the now-vacant Roseville Inn on Groesbeck Highway south of Common Road came down as the process moved ahead. Jars Cannabis plans to build a new dispensary once the rubble is removed.
The former Roseville Inn has been one of the most troubled properties in Roseville, according to city officials. They say over the past three years, the city’s police and fire departments have responded there for dozens of calls for various complaints.
“Historically, the Roseville Inn has been a location that our police and fire departments spend a lot of time,” City Manager Ryan Monroe wrote in an email. “We get calls for service for arguments, vagrants, tenant evictions and ambulance service.”
Police Chief Mitchell Berlin confirmed in an email his department handled “excessive” runs at the former two-story motel.
“The Roseville Police Departments Special Investigations Division conducted several operations there targeting prostitution and narcotic traffickers. The building itself has deteriorated, so I am excited for the demolition and new building going up,” he wrote.
According to assessing records, a corporation known as 29765 Roseville, LLC — the motel’s address — purchased the property in October for $1.85 million from Mahendra Patel of Livonia. The resident agent is listed as Hani Kassab Jr. of Birmingham, a senior executive with Jars.
Jars hopes to have the facility up and running in October, according to the company’s website.
