Algonac voters on Tuesday narrowly defeated a voter-initiated marijuana ordinance amendment proposal.
The ordinance proposal asked if a proposed initiated ordinance amendment in the city of Algonac to repeal the city’s ordinance “Division 5-Marihuana, Sec. 26-295-Prohibition of marihuana establishments” and to add a section to allow one marijuana dispensary, licensed with the state of Michigan as a provisioning center offering both medical and adult-use marijuana to be located in a commercially zoned district within the boundaries of the city of Algonac, should be approved.
The unofficial results state that 517 people, or about 51%, voted against the proposal, and 503 people, or about 49%, voted for it.
