Caro’s Proposed Ordinance To Increase The Number Of Grow Licenses Fails

Feb 28, 2024 | Feature, Great Lakes Region, Michigan

Caro’s proposed marijuana ordinance was overwhelmingly rejected by voters in the Presidential Primary Election held on Tuesday.

The proposal, which was spearheaded by the group Green Citizens of Caro, failed with 310 yes votes to 559 no votes. The group was seeking to increase the number of adult-use grower licenses in the city.

“The citizens of Caro have spoken their piece,” said City Manager Scott Czasak.

In the weeks leading up to the Feb. 27 election, several Caro citizens expressed on social media they had no knowledge of the proposal being on the ballot.

Currently, there are two Class C grower licenses in the city of Caro, and two marijuana dispensaries, Spark Cannabis and Premier Cannabis. With the failure of this proposal, it is not expected to affect or disrupt business from the two dispensaries.

It is unknown if the group will seek to get another proposal in the upcoming August and November elections later this year. Bianca Golani, who was named the person responsible for collecting signatures and leading this proposal, was not available for statement by press time.
