The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation announced last week recreational cannabis sales totals for January 2024.
January out-of-state resident sales dropped to its lowest total since February 2020, the second month of legalization. Illinois countered its low out-of-state resident sales with strong in-state resident sales to kick off 2024 with its highest January in-state resident sales since legalization.
January 2024 out-of-state resident sales plummeted to $29,739,097.19. In 2023, out-of-state resident sales totals averaged around $32-36 million per month.
The January in-state resident sales finished at $104,048,656.70.
The overall January 2024 sales total reached $133,787,753.89. In comparison, January totals for 2023 reached $127,938,019.85. Dispensaries sold 3,551,727 cannabis items.
