A woman high on marijuana panicked while in a rideshare and jumped out of the moving vehicle on I-96 near I-94, state police said. The incident began around 4:45 p.m. Sunday, March 24, when motorists called Detroit Regional Communication Center to report a crash on I-96 involving a pedestrian.
While state police were enroute, the call was reported to be a kidnapping, with the victim, a 31-year-old Detroit woman, jumping from the vehicle.
Witnesses reported that the woman jumped from a vehicle in the left lane of I-96. Then, a rideshare driver called and said the woman jumped out of his vehicle because she did not like the route he was taking to downtown Detroit.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she was alert and stable, state police said.
“During she interview it was determined she was under the influence of marijuana and had anxiety because she saw a sign that said Port Huron and panicked thinking he was taking her somewhere else,” state police said on X.
“This woman was very lucky she wasn’t seriously hurt during this incident,” state police Lt. Mike Shaw state.
