Madison Heights city officials say they continue to see the financial upside of welcoming cannabis companies to open in town. The latest benefit will be seen in a $200,000 project to replace all of the city’s eight gateway signs into Madison Heights, which will include the city’s new logo.

“The signs are already being fabricated and they will start going up probably in May or June,” said City Manager Melissa Marsh.

Quality Roots cannabis, set to open at the end of the month at 350 E. 14 Mile Road, bills itself as the largest cannabis retailer in Oakland County and is covering the costs of the new signs.

The company has been willing to help the city since it began the application process to open, said Mayor Roslyn Grafstein.  Continue reading

“We’re doing a whole rebranding of the city’s signage and logo, which is expensive,” Grafstein said in a statement. “We talked with Quality Roots about what we hoped to do with the signage and they were completely on board with it.”

The first new gateway sign will be erected at 14 Mile and John R roads.

Two other cannabis stores, Liberty and Puff, opened in the city in 2021. Marsh said each licensed marijuana dispensary in the city in 2023 brought in from $50,000 to $59,000 annually in state funding, and each dispensary annually contributes $25,000 to nonprofit city efforts.
