The fifth marijuana shop in Port Huron may be moving forward with plans to open just off Military Street on the southern edge of the city’s downtown.
Portage Acquisitions LLC was one of seven entities awarded a host of provisional recreational and medical licenses more than three years ago under an outside-introduced but voter-approved ballot initiative.
Local zoning rules, however, require each receive a special use permit from Port Huron’s planning commission.
On Tuesday, one was approved for Portage Acquisitions for 515 Wall St., a long-vacant brick and stucco-type structure next door to the American Legion.
There was no discussion among planning commissioners Tuesday, and Anderson Grandstaff, a representative in attendance for the licensee, said he’d been advised not to comment.
No formal timeline for opening the shop was shared.
