More than 2,000 pounds of marijuana were seized along with psychedelics and a butane hash oil operation in Southwest Michigan, police said.

The enforcement happened Wednesday, March 12, in Branch County after an investigation of “black market” butane hash oil production.

Southwest Enforcement Team detectives and Michigan State Police Marijuana and Tobacco Investigations Section detectives executed the search warrants on the 600 block of Warren Road, Ovid Township, and the 800 block of Marshall Road, Girard Township.

The searches recovered more than 2,000 pounds of marijuana intended for hash oil conversion, 312 marijuana plants, 32 pounds of butane hash oil, psilocybin mushrooms, dimethyltryptamine (DMT), suspected MDMA and three guns.

Evidence of commercial butane hash oil (BHO) production and distribution was found, MSP said.

The Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act allows legal marijuana possession, consumption and production. However, MSP said, black market marijuana and hash oil evade testing, taxation and safety inspections.

Butane hash oil production laws prohibit operations in residential areas due to volatility. This lab was 60 feet from a home with young children, MSP said.
