Fans of country music singer Charley Crockett got some disappointing news this week as the Grammy winner had to cancel his tour of Canada. In an Instagram post, Crockett said he was denied entry into Canada due to a decade-old marijuana conviction.
“Everybody’s got a past. Mine’s still haunting me,” Crockett wrote. “I tried to cross the Canadian border twice in 24 hours. After they denied me entry in Vancouver, I tried again in Kelowna and was rejected a second time. I have been advised that it would jeopardize my freedom to try and enter again. I am deeply sorry to announce the cancellation of my entire Canadian tour.”
Crockett then wrote that full refunds would be given to those who purchased tickets. He also apologized again and said that Canada is a beautiful country with wonderful fans.
“I ain’t one to quit and I aim to be back one of these days real soon,” Crockett concluded.
The denied entry stems from Crockett’s 2016 conviction in Virginia for felony possession with intent to distribute more than five pounds of marijuana. Crockett was sentenced to 10 years probation in the case.
As part of his Instagram post, Crockett shared a letter from the Canadian government that explained he was denied entry due to “serious criminality.” The letter further explained that if Crockett had been convicted of the same crime in Canada he would face up to 10 years in prison.
The 2025 Grammy winner for Best Regional Roots Music Album was scheduled to play seven shows in Canada between Feb. 25 and March 6. His tour will now resume on March 7 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
