January Michigan cannabis sales plunged nearly 16 percent from December and down more than 8 percent from January 2025.
That’s the news from the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency sales report.
Breaking down the figures:
- Adult-use sales $226.4 million in January, down about 8.2% from January 2025.
- Medical cannabis sales fell sharply by 43.4% year-over-year to about $400,000.
- Supply once again surpassed demand, a pattern that has plagued Michigan for years.
This downturn follows a broader trend in the Michigan market. 2025 cannabis sales topped $3.17 billion, down from $3.27 billion in 2024, the first yearly contraction since adult-use was legalized in December 2019.
While overall annual revenue remains in the billions, January sales figures signal renewed pressure on retailers and producers alike, particularly with a 24 percent wholesale tax that began on January first.
