Governor Abigail Spanberger says conversations about creating a legal recreational marijuana market in Virginia remain ongoing.
“I’m very heartened by the progress that we’ve made,” Spanberger told reporters on Monday.
The discussions come after Senator Lashrecse Aird (D-Henrico) and Delegate Paul Krizek (D-Fairfax) said last week that they would like to see language creating a legal recreational marijuana market in Virginia included in the state budget, and they hope to find common ground with Spanberger after she vetoed their legislation on the issue in May.
“This bill, as opposed to any of the other vetoed bills, is really one that’s more urgent,” Krizek told 8News last week. “It’s about public safety.”
