Pennsylvania: Audit Calls For Improved Medical Marijuana Inspections

Sep 10, 2026 | Great Lakes Region, Medical, Pennsylvania, Safety

A performance audit has found that the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) must strengthen its internal review processes for medical marijuana.

Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor said in a Wednesday release that the health department “lacked proper internal controls to ensure inspections” of medical marijuana. The approval route for any plans made to correct those processes was also deemed “inadequate”.

The poor review processes the audit identified within the state’s medical marijuana program also includes the monitoring standards for growers, processors and dispensaries.
