The Cannabis Regulatory Agency issued 44 disciplinary violations in June and three businesses had licenses suspended or revoked because of problems, Michigan Information & Research Service Inc. reported.

Klean Herbal Solutions in Detroit, Candid Labs in Buchanan and Corunna, and Sky Labs in Mt. Morris were all shut down after an investigation uncovered wrongdoing or a problem that resulted in either the license being revoked or surrendered.

“When businesses don’t follow the laws and rules that govern the cannabis industry, it is important they be held accountable for their actions,” CRA Executive Director Brian HANNA said. “It is vital to the health and safety of the public that all licensees in Michigan’s cannabis industry abide by the rules and laws that are in place to protect the public.”

Candid Labs was found with cannabis oil and distillate that was from outside the state and Ramon HANA, the business owner, was banned from ever working in a licensed cannabis business in Michigan (See “CRA Revokes Corunna Cannabis Company Licenses, Banishes Business Owner,” 6/15/23), Michigan Information & Research Service Inc. reported.

The CRA revoked the license and came to an agreement with Mario SEMAN, of Klean Herbal Solutions that stemmed from an investigation that started in 2021.

“The result of this agreement means that Mr. Seman will never again be allowed to participate in Michigan’s cannabis industry,” Hanna said.

In April 2021, CRA investigators received complaints about Klean employees smoking cannabis in an area above the facility and found partially smoked product on the floor.  The area was also not included in the floor plan submitted to the agency.

In September 2021, the road outside the business buckled and an anonymous photograph showed people moving marijuana in trash bags out of the dispensary to an unapproved location.
Investigators also found unlicensed product in the facility after it collapsed because of the road.

Sky Labs in Mount Morris surrendered its medical processor license, had strict requirements placed on the adult-use processor license and had to pay $100,000 after a mislabeled THC product was given to a 4-year-old, among other violations.

The Sky Labs adult-use processor has to have a full on-site audit by the CRA, provide a copy of the standard operating procedures, and provide copies of the logs every month for 12 months.

In June 2022, the company gave edibles to employees that were mislabeled as CBD products, but were actually THC.  One employee gave two of the edibles to his or her child, who was then taken to the hospital. Davison city police and Child Protective Services became involved.

CRA audits were performed on packaging at the company, which passed. When reaudited, the packages were not the same and did not contain the same product.

In September 2021, several production workers were seen handling and making food who were not trained and did not have training certificates.

The other violations happened against 21 companies throughout Michigan and resulted in fines.
