JARS Cannabis on Monday officially opened the township’s first recreational cannabis dispensary, marking the Troy-based company’s 21st location in Michigan. Business was reportedly strong despite a lack of grand opening marketing hype.
Chesterfield’s cannabis retail outlet is located in a 3,100-square-foot facility on Gratiot Avenue, just north of 23 Mile Road. Before that, the site sat vacant.
“The historic opening of Jars Cannabis in Chesterfield Township is a reflection of the community’s trust and our commitment to delivering a one-of-a-kind cannabis experience,” said Jars Cannabis COO, Raymond Abro.
He extended the company’s thanks to Chesterfield Township Supervisor Brad Kersten, Clerk Cindy Berry, and Trustee David Joseph for “their dedicated efforts” in securing the community’s first recreational cannabis license. He added that he looks forward to becoming an integral part of the township.
The Michigan marijuana industry reported $3 billion in total sales in 2023, according to the state’s Cannabis Regulatory Agency. That puts the Great Lakes in second place among the largest cannabis markets in the nation, after California, according to the state’s Department of Tax and Fee Administration.
