Five Bangor Middle School students were suspended over an incident involving marijuana-laced brownies, school officials said March 7.
One student brought the brownies to school, according to Bangor School District Superintendent Lynn Johnson. The student shared the brownies with four other middle-school aged children for eating, Johnson said.
The student who brought the brownies to school has also been referred to local law enforcement, as well as Child Protective Services for further investigation, Johnson said.
This student is being referred to the Van Buren County Juvenile Court, Bangor Police Department told WWMT. It is possible the student receives a minor in possession charge, police said.
Two of the four other students said they were aware the brownies contained marijuana, Johnson said. The other two said they were unaware, he added.
All five of the students have been suspended for 10 days pending further investigation, Johnson said. It is possible the two students who said they were unaware of the marijuana in the brownies may be suspended less than 10 days, he added.
School officials discovered the incident after one of the students unaware of the marijuana-laced brownies went home and told a parent, who reported it to the school, Johnson said.
