Mango Cannabis has announced the opening of its first retail location in Michigan – the home state of the company’s founders. The new, 4,000-square-foot flagship superstore is located at 5620 South Cedar Street in Lansing, marking the first Mango dispensary outside of Oklahoma, where the original Mango opened in 2019, followed by eight more across the state.

A second Michigan location, in Waterford, will debut in Q1 2025, with more planned in the next several months — including Sunland Park, NM and Rochester, NY.

“Lansing is the first store in our home state, so it’s very special to us,” says Jon Pattah, chief marketing officer and co-founder of Mango Cannabis. “Before we went to Oklahoma in 2018, Lansing is where this story began. We originally applied for a license here, but the system was extremely stringent and complicated, so it’s really nice that our first store in Michigan is Lansing — it means something to us.”

The key difference between the Michigan and Oklahoma markets is that the former operates as a recreational cannabis market, while the latter is a medical-only market. This shift allows Mango Cannabis to tailor its approach and inventory to a broader customer base.

The four partners of Mango Cannabis, all under 40 years old, — Kevin Pattah, CEO; Jon Pattah, CMO; Mike Khemmoro, COO and Brandon Binno, President –  started their respective cannabis journeys in nearby West Bloomfield, where they each gained extensive retail experience working in their families’ businesses and learning about the importance of good customer service and business management.

In just five years in Oklahoma, Mango Cannabis’ reputation for exceptional attention to detail, top-tier customer service, and a wide variety of products at the most competitive prices has fueled sales to rank it among the highest in the state. Its stores have garnered “Best of Weedmaps” honors – chosen by Weedmaps users — in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

“Mango Cannabis will stand out in Lansing the same way we do across all our locations,” says Kevin Pattah. “Our commitment to providing a welcoming, knowledgeable environment ensures that customers not only find what they need but also have an outstanding experience every time they visit.

“We’re especially pleased that the reputation we built in Oklahoma has transitioned into Michigan. A lot of vendors are excited about our new venue and want us to be their Lansing hub for their products. As in Oklahoma, we are going to be working with vendors closely on great deals and promotions for thousands of products. Being able to offer our customers the best prices that are usually considerably better than those of our competitors is very important to us.”

The flagship store reflects a new design aesthetic which Mango plans to incorporate in all of its new stores. Mango’s exteriors now feature branded glowing green and orange mangoes making the buildings easily identifiable. Sleek, state-of-the-art modern glass windows invite the community in, a calming green wall greets customers, creating a natural, welcoming aesthetic. The waiting area was designed with comfort in mind, setting a relaxing tone for the customer experience. The displays and cabinets were thoughtfully crafted to highlight our products in a modern, minimalist way, showcasing them as the true focal points. Each section—from entrance to checkout—was tailored to balance aesthetic appeal and efficiency with customer convenience.

“Opening in Lansing, especially on this particular street, carries sentimental value,” said Kevin Pattah, Mango Cannabis CEO. “So we wanted the design to reflect our pride and vision for Mango. We focused on every detail to build a space that feels unique yet welcoming, aligning with our brand identity. We made sure each element tells our story. It’s our flagship in Michigan, and we wanted it to make a lasting first impression, reflecting both who we are now and where we’re headed.”

Mango Cannabis currently operates in Michigan and Oklahoma with expansion into several more states in 2025.
