Ballot Initiative To Repeal Ohio’s New Marijuana Law Hits Snag

Jan 20, 2026 | Feature, Great Lakes Region

The citizen-led ballot initiative to repeal Ohio’s new marijuana law has already hit a snag. Ohioans For Cannabis Choice — the group seeking to repeal Senate Bill 56, which they say recriminalizes the use of cannabis — learned this week that Attorney General Dave Yost (R) has rejected their ballot petition summary.

“My office’s review is a very simple, ministerial review for truth and whether it’s misleading or not,” Yost said on Thursday. “The problem with this summary was not only were there some statements were incorrect, there was at least one that was flat out wrong.”
