A new botanical drug derived from marijuana has been approved in Germany to treat chronic pain, ushering in a new future for the medical applications of cannabis.
In late May, Germany’s Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, which is similar to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, granted marketing approval for Exilby, an oral tincture derived from marijuana made by German pharmaceutical company Vertanical. Exilby is expected to hit the market this fall.
