Michigan Spent $4M On State Marijuana Lab That Can’t Legally Test

Most Michigan marijuana customers take for granted that their products are safe and accurately tested, industry insiders say.

But regulators don’t seem so sure.

In 2023, the state Cannabis Regulatory Agency announced plans to open a $4.4 million state-reference lab that would be able to double-check the validity of test results, conduct investigations and improve industry testing methods and standards.

“The majority of one-time costs have already been paid for, including planning and construction of the physical space and procurement and installation of equipment,” said CRA spokesman David Harns.
