Federal Hemp Ban On The Way As NC Eyes ‘Limited’ Marijuana Bill

Jul 1, 2026 | Feature, National

A federal ban on intoxicating hemp-derived products is set to go into effect this fall; this means that a majority of intoxicating cannabinoid products on shelves in North Carolina, where cannabis remains fully illegal, will disappear.

As previously reported by the Citizen Times, the new rules associated with Public Law 119-37, also known as “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” will ban more than 95% of all hemp-extract products, including many that have no intoxicating effect. President Donald Trump signed the bill in November 2025 as part of a deal to end the government shutdown; one year from the date of its signing, the hemp ban will go into effect countrywide.
