Jul 30, 2026 | Feature, Great Lakes Region

Cannabis use among Minnesota teenagers has dropped significantly over the past decade, falling from 13% to 5% between 2013 and 2025, according to new research from the University of Minnesota Medical School.

The study, published this week in Social Science and Medicine, examined data from the Minnesota Student Survey to track how cannabis use patterns changed among 9th and 11th graders. Researchers looked at differences across social groups, including assigned sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity and socioeconomic status.
