Indiana: Hemp Industry Gets A Little Breathing Room

Sep 17, 2026 | Feature, Great Lakes Region, Hemp, Indiana

New federal restrictions on THC-infused products have been pushed back one month, giving Hoosier businesses more time before much of the market could become federally illegal. Indiana’s hemp-derived cannabinoid industry has generated billions statewide in economic impact and supports thousands of jobs.

Federal changes in December would upend much of that market. Cannabinoids that cannot naturally occur in the cannabis plant, including certain synthetic products, are still scheduled to lose their federal hemp status Nov. 12.

The House approved the measure 370-48 after the Senate’s 90-6 vote.
