Vermont’s regulated cannabis market was designed by the Legislature to bring people from the black market into the sunlight. Regulators hope cannabis event permits will help more people do so.
Ben Wilcox owns and operates Off Piste Farm in Sutton and is working overtime to harvest this season’s cannabis before this weekend’s frost. It will soon be shipped to retailers across the Northeast Kingdom. He also brings in business by hosting campers and giving tours of his craft cannabis farm. “Of course I can’t sell them any product directly, which I’d love to do someday,” Wilcox said.
He’s intrigued by the idea of so-called cannabis event permits. Whether it’s a concert, a farmers market or a sporting event, a pilot program launching soon will allow — in certain circumstances — adults at events to enter a sanctioned area to buy weed. There are rules on where, when, and who can sell. And folks would not be able to consume it on-site.
