Lume Cannabis Co. announced its plan to expand its state-of-the-art grow facility in Evart, Michigan. The four-phased plan sets the stage for Lume to grow its cultivation facility from 50,000 square feet to 450,000 square feet. The expansion will create more than 500 jobs and support the company’s plan to operate 100 stores in Michigan by 2024.

“At Lume, our goal has always been to be Michigan’s leading cannabis operator,” said Doug Hellyar, president and COO of Lume. “We developed an aggressive business plan that included a rapid growth plan to open 100 stores across the state in five years, create jobs in our community and help grow the local economy. Strengthening our supply chain and increasing our production capacity are critical to our ability to achieve this goal.”

Each phase is expected to create 130 new jobs, totaling 520 new jobs over the life of the project.

“We made a significant investment into our state-of-the-art cultivation facility, which includes the nation’s most advanced and efficient flower technology,” Hellyar said. “Thanks to our first-of-its-kind facility, and our highly skilled and highly trained cultivation team, we’re able to produce safe and high-quality cannabis products for our patients and customers.”

Lume offers high-quality cannabis products and a unique, customer-focused retail experience with more than 20 strains of high-quality Lume flower, pre-rolls, effects-based Lume Cartridges, edibles and a new line of CBD products available online at www.lume.com.

At 50,000 square feet, Lume consistently produces enough product to supply 20 stores, which is 10 more than Lume currently operates. The first expansion, which is scheduled to kick-off this month will add an additional 85,000 square feet and allow Lume to increase production capacity by 150%, which will support an additional 30 stores. Upon completion of phase one, Lume will have the production capacity to support 50 stores, halfway to its goal of 100 stores.

“I would like to commend the Marijuana Regulation Agency, under the leadership of Andrew Brisbo, for the progress they’ve made in regulating this new industry that’s changing and growing every day,” Hellyar said. “The MRA has been great to work with and we credit their comprehensive licensing process as one of the reasons we have been able to open 10 stores across the state in just under a year.”

Lume currently operates adult-use stores in Adrian, Big Rapids, Evart, Honor, Kalamazoo, Mackinaw City, Negaunee, Owosso, Petoskey and Walled Lake. Lume has stores under construction in Sault Ste. Marie, Jackson, Iron Mountain, Lowell and Petersburg that will all open by the end of 2020. Additionally, a recently announced partnership with the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, will allowLume to open five additional marijuana retail facilities on tribal land in the Upper Peninsula by 2021.
